Conclusion

In conclusion I've observed how media is found in our every day lives. From music to sports and the inter net and beyond it's clearly evident that media plays an important role in our every day lives. We might not be aware of how much interaction we have with the media but after sitting down and thinking about my daily rituals it has become obvious on how much of a role media plays in my life.

One of the main forms of media contact I noticed was through advertisements. Earlier in the month as the NCAA tournament drew closer an obvious and thorough advertisement campaign was launched. This campaign covered all forms of media and mass communication. Advertisements were found on the TV, Internet, radio, and even xbox. The advertisements attempted to draw potential viewers attention from multiple angels and continued up to the day of the tournament.

I also noticed how media and advertisement seemed to increase based on a websites popularity. My favorite website, the chive, started small with no advertisements. But as the site grew, sure enough, the media contacts and advertisements responded accordingly. As a result of these findings and these blogs I have really come to realize how important advertisement has become and how technology has allowed for us to be more susceptible to becoming exposed to these advertisements.

The media industry has become a fast paced industry and clearly is doing all it can to stay on top and reach its potential consumers.

It's becoming more and more integrated into our lives every single day...

Has anyone ever taken the time to think about how many mass communications we are exposed to daily?

I wake up in the morning to my alarm clock which plays the radio, I turn it off, go to the bathroom, put my cell phone on the music doc and start playing music while I take a shower. Then while I am getting ready, I either listen to music or turn the television. Before I go to class, I get on the internet to check my emails, class syllabus, online homework, Facebook, The Chive, Drudge Report, etc....And then I even might read a chapter out of the book I'm currently reading. On the way to class, I'll listen to music and play games on my phone against my friends across the United States.

While I'm in class, I have a book and Macbook open in front of me, listening to my professor as he lectures with a computer and projector. Sometimes we have to watch movies or Youtube clips during lecture as well. Occasionally, checking my phone the whole time.

At the end of the day, I'll watch television, watch a movie, do homework and study online...and browse all different web sites at the same time. To top it off, I can access all these media contacts from my iPhone, iPad, or Macbook.

That is about 10 media contacts I expose myself to daily. I don't hate it.

The Chive. My Favorite Website

My favorite website is www.thechive.com. I have been a big follower of this website since it's debut in 2009. I have watched this website grow from being supported by a small group of grass root fans to being 'liked' on Facebook by over 200,000 people.

There has been a direct correlation between the amount of advertisement found on the chive and the amount of fans. As the fans have increased the website has become peppered with random advertisements.

Major advertisements (facebook, upcoming blockbuster movies) to smaller companies (old spice) and even major global corporations (fox) can all be found on the chive. When the chive first opened it prided itself on have little to no advertisements. Obviously advertisements have been added to help contribute to the massive amount of traffic the website now receives. I enjoy the way that the chive positions its advertisements. All advertisements are added to fit the theme of the chive and they normally blend perfectly. Only the videos cause a problem (they often make you wait 30 seconds before watching)

March Madness Coming Soon

Not that I would want to, but it seems like no matter where I turn or look something constantly reminds me of march madness. While I have allowed myself to get caught up in the madness, the amount of advertisement that has been invested into this event hasn't failed to catch my eye. Espn, Fox, Abc, NBC, and just about every other TV network constantly airs commercials about the up coming tournament.

While television tirelessly promotes the event the internet is stacked with ad's upon ad's encouraging me to fill out another new bracket (already have 3) or offering free tickets by entering a contest. (Seems like the NCAA tournament bracket challenge isn't enough) Even xbox live and the video games I play have joined in on the promotion of March Madness. (genius advertisement in my opinion)

It all makes sense tho because bracketology is such a huge part of basketball and I have no complaints at the increased attention that the tournament is drawing.

Why is Dubstep taking over these days?

Over the past year, I can't help but notice how electronic, dubstep, techno (whatever you want to call it) is taking over everything. And by everything, I mean: advertisements, movies, radio, television and the music scene.

There are numerous commercials, especially car commercials, that have dubstep music blaring in the background. Movie intros and soundtracks are filled with it. Every day I turn on the radio, there is an electronic song playing on at least one of the many stations I browse through.

Even on MTV, a lot of the shows are based around electronic music. For example, The Jersey Shore, which lead to the DJ Pauly D Project....

I guess since electronic music is taking over almost every mass communication, people are liking it more and more.

However, it is quite mind bottling. That's when all your thoughts get trapped in a bottle.
